The Trend Of COVID-19 Cases In Indonesia Again Rises, Epidemiologists: Vaccination Is The Key To Prevention

JAKARTA - The trend of COVID-19 cases in Indonesia has recently increased again. Today, Saturday, June 11, there were 574 new cases of COVID-19.

This is clearly worrying. Moreover, Indonesia had previously been preparing for an endemic with the loosening of several regulations.

Epidemiologist from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia (FKUI), Pandu Riono said increasing vaccination coverage was one of the keys to preventing an increase in COVID-19 cases.

"The key is to increase vaccination coverage as much as possible and as soon as possible, from the first dose to the booster dose," he said as quoted by Antara.

Pandu said, by increasing vaccination coverage, it is expected to increase immunity and optimal protection for each individual.

"With high immunity in the community, it is hoped that it can reduce the number of hospitalizations and deaths as it is today," he said.

In addition, socialization and recommendations for health protocols also need to be continuously improved and intensified. This is of course to increase public awareness and understanding.

"Socialization regarding the importance of wearing masks, maintaining distance and washing hands must continue to be increased to remind the public about the importance of health protocols," he said.

However, Pandu assessed that the increase in COVID-19 cases in the last three weeks was still under control. "The key is to increase vaccination coverage and practice health protocols," he said.
