Securing 1.03 Kg Of Crystal Methamphetamine, Police Thwart Drug Trafficking In Karimun Kepri

KEPRI - The Narcotics Unit of the Karimun Police, Riau Islands Police (Kepri), thwarted the circulation of 1.03 kilograms of methamphetamine by securing a 25-year-old male suspect with the initials S.

"We are still investigating the origin of the methamphetamine. The plan is to bring it to the Guntung River, Riau Province," said Karimun Police Chief AKBP Tony Pantano at a press conference at his office, Friday, June 10.

The police chief said that the disclosure of this case began with information from the public that methamphetamine had entered the local area.

Armed with this information, following Antara's report, the police immediately conducted an investigation and then arrested suspect S at one of the guesthouses in the Karimun sub-district, Wednesday 1 June.

"From the hands of suspect S, 1,032 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine were secured, as well as cash of around Rp. 3 million," he said again.

The police chief stated that the shabu-shabu evidence that had been confiscated in its entirety from suspect S was estimated to be able to save 3,096 to 4,128 human lives. Assuming 1 gram of methamphetamine is consumed by 3 to 4 people.

He emphasized that the suspect's actions violated Article 114 paragraph 2 subsidiary 112 paragraph 2 of Law No. 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics, with the threat of a minimum sentence of 5 years and a maximum of 20 years in prison or a life sentence or a death penalty or a fine of IDR 1 billion. up to IDR 10 billion.

The police chief also appealed to the people of Karimun not to get involved in drug abuse because the threat of punishment is very heavy.

"Consuming drugs can also damage the central nervous system which causes dependence, so that it can damage the future," he said.
