BNPB Urges Mamuju Earthquake Refugees To Return Home Immediately
MAMUJU - Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Lt. Gen. Suharyanto appealed to residents who had evacuated at a number of points after the 5.8 magnitude earthquake that rocked Mamuju Regency, West Sulawesi, to return home immediately.
"We make sure the situation is under control. We ask the public not to panic, immediately return to their homes. If they are afraid to go home, make tents in their respective homes," said Suharyanto in a coordination meeting for the acceleration of handling after the earthquake at the West Sulawesi Governor's office. , Thursday, June 9th.
He conveyed that none of the sciences in this world can detect when an earthquake occurs.
"However, with developments getting higher, the BMKG has installed a fault, after yesterday's incident, four aftershocks occurred again, but all of them decreased, so we make sure the situation is under control," said Suharyanto.
However, the Head of BNPB suggested that local governments form an emergency response task force. The goal is to validate data on the impact of an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8.
"In response to an emergency, initial treatment was carried out. Initial information was that 17 people were injured. Don't let anyone go untreated, look for it properly. This week, find out which ones are seriously injured, which buildings are damaged. BNPB will help. First the community and community houses. to speed up data collection and BNPB to help immediately," said Suharyanto.
He hopes that education will continue to run in order to increase public awareness that West Sulawesi is prone to disasters. "Later, I will cooperate with the BMKG, increasing the culture of disaster awareness," said Suharyanto.
Meanwhile, Acting Governor of West Sulawesi Akmal Malik said the presence of the Head of BNPB was a strength for the people of West Sulawesi in dealing with disasters. Moreover, people are still worried about the earthquake the previous year.
"The 2021 events really haunt our society. So, after the incident, a number of people immediately evacuated," said Akmal Malik.
However, the community has not been coordinated in carrying out evacuations, so he hopes that public education will continue to provide awareness so that they can live friendly with disasters.
"Sulbar is located above a disaster-prone area. West Sulawesi is prone to earthquakes, floods, landslides. So, it requires extraordinary attention and requires education to the public in responding to disasters," said Akmal Malik.
The visit of the Head of BNPB to West Sulawesi at the same time handed over the Ready to Use Fund (DSP) assistance and logistical assistance and equipment to the West Sulawesi Provincial Government.
Assistance in the form of Ready-to-Use Funds (DSP) of IDR 250 million for the Provincial Government along with logistics and disaster equipment, IDR 100 million DSP for the West Sulawesi Regional Police, IDR 150 million DSP for Danrem 142/Tatag and DSP for two districts, Majene-Mamuju, each with IDR 250 million.
