Regency Government Sets Mamuju Earthquake Emergency Response Status

MAMUJU - The government has established an emergency response status for an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 in Mamuju Regency, West Sulawesi (Sulbar).

"The government has declared the Mamuju earthquake as an emergency response status from June 8, 2022 to June 14, 2022, or until the next week," said Mamuju Regent Sitti Sutinah Suhardi Duka, quoted by Antara, Thursday, June 9.

He said that with the status of the emergency response, the district government in Mamuju would immediately respond to the impact of the earthquake.

According to him, the earthquake in Mamuju had an impact on a number of sub-districts, including Tapalang District, West Tapalang District, Mamuju District, Simboro District and Kalukku District, which disrupted the function of public services.

Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Mamuju Regency, Taslim Sukirno, stated that 70 houses were damaged by the earthquake.

"Information about damaged houses that were recorded as a result of the Mamuju earthquake, totaled 70 units and the data is still temporary," he said.

BPBD Mamuju is still collecting data on houses damaged by the earthquake in a number of sub-districts in Mamuju, which were affected by the earthquake. Meanwhile, the number of refugees from the Mamuju earthquake was 7,670 people.

The refugees were in a number of evacuation points, including at Manakarra Stadium, TVRI Sulbar office, Mamuju Regent's Office, Mamuju City Line Two and a number of points in West Tappalang District.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) released the Mamuju earthquake point located at sea at a distance of 26 kilometers from Mamuju City with a depth of 10 kilometers, the epicenter of the earthquake was at coordinates 2.77 south latitude and 118.56 east longitude.

The earthquake in Mamuju caused eight people with minor injuries and one serious injury, but no casualties.

In addition, four units of government buildings as well as one unit of the mosque and the PLN Mamuju Branch office were damaged.
