JAKARTA - Investigators from the Brebes Police, Central Java have arrested the leader of the Khilafatul Muslimin organization in the Cirebon region, West Java, Ali Zamroni regarding the development of the investigation into the convoy case of the organization which was carried out some time ago.
The Head of the Public Relations Division of the Police, Inspector General Dedi Prasetyo, confirmed that there were law enforcement efforts carried out by the Brebes Police in Cirebon.
"(True) the Brebes Police took the security," said Dedi, as quoted by Antara, Wednesday, June 8.
Dedi said that currently Ali Zamroni was being questioned as a witness in connection with the arrest of three suspects suspected of being linked to the convoy of the Khilafatul Muslimin organization in Brebes Regency which occurred some time ago.
"It's just an interrogation process," he said.
Separately, the Head of Public Relations of the Central Java Police, Kombes Iqbal Alqudusy, said that Ali Zamroni was arrested by members of the Brebes Police yesterday. Currently, he is still a witness.
"The status is still a witness, not a suspect. The investigation is still being carried out," he said.
According to Iqbal, the leader of the Khilafatul Muslimin organization in the Cirebon area was arrested in connection with the arrest of three suspects suspected of being linked to a convoy of the Khilafatul Muslimin organization in Brebes Regency that occurred some time ago.
The three suspects were respectively GZ as the leader of the Khilafatul Muslimin Jamaah branch and DS, and AS, which was the leader of the Khilafatul Muslimin Jamaah branch.
After the arrest of three suspects, the National Police through the Polda Metro Jaya together with the Polda Lampung arrested the leader of Khilafatul Muslimin Abdul Qodir Hasan Baraja in Lampung, Tuesday (7/6). On suspicion of violating the law on community organizations (ormas), the ITE Law and spreading false news (hoaks) that caused a commotion.
Abdul Qodir Hasan Baraja was also named a suspect. So that in the case of the Khilafatul Muslimin convoy there were four people who were named suspects.
The police are currently investigating Abdul Qodir Baraja's involvement in the Khilafatul Muslimin motorcycle convoy in East Jakarta last week.
The four suspects were charged with Article 14 and/or Article 15 of Law No. 1 of 1946 concerning Criminal Law Regulations and/or Article 82 A in conjunction with Article 59 of Law No. 16 of 2017 concerning Stipulation of Perpu No. 2 of 2017 concerning Amendments to Law No. 17 of 2013 concerning Organizations Public.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Public Information Bureau (Karo Penmas) of the Public Relations Division of the Police Brigadier General Ahmad Ramadhan said that the Khilafatul Muslimin organization had carried out convoys of the caliphate ideology in several areas other than Jakarta.
"In addition to East Jakarta (Cawang), also in Cimahi, West Java, then Brebes and also conduct convoys in Surabaya," said Ramadhan, this afternoon.
According to him, investigators are still conducting further investigation of a number of suspects arrested in several areas.
Including, the police are also still investigating the alleged violations of terrorism from the group. The police indicated the closeness of the supreme leader of the Muslim Khilafatul Abdul Qadir Hasan Baraja to the terrorist network.
Abdul Qodir Hasan Baraja was arrested in connection with a criminal act of terrorism in 1979, then released in 1982, and detained again in 1985. He founded the Khilafatul Muslimin in 1977. Then he co-founded the Indonesian Mujahidin Council (MMI) in 2000. He also has close ties to radical groups.
