Denies Only King Maker, Gerindra Legislator Claims Prabowo Can Mandate Forward In The 2024 Presidential Election

JAKARTA - Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the Gerindra Party faction, Yan Permenas Mandenas, confirmed that General Chair Prabowo Subianto would continue to run as a presidential candidate (Capres) in the 2024 presidential election. Yan denied that Prabowo would step down and become the king maker.

"If there is an issue of Pak Prabowo stepping down and so on, that is not true. Because until now, Gerindra cadres in all corners want and support Pak Prabowo to step forward," said Yan Permenas at the Parliament complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, June 7.

Regarding Prabowo's words, young people must offer themselves to the state and nation.

Yan emphasized that all Gerindra cadres gave Prabowo a mandate to become a presidential candidate in 2024. Even though the Minister of Defense had said he did not have to go to the NasDem Party office.

"Go ahead, but Pak Prabowo accepts the mandate of all Gerindra cadres and also the mandate of the Indonesian people who are loyal supporters of him wanting him to come forward," he said.

Yan admits that there are currently many names of presidential candidates that have sprung up. However, he said, Prabowo Subianto is the only presidential candidate who is a party leader with high electability.

"Now various kinds of presidential candidates appear, but the only candidate with a party is Prabowo, who we can say meets the requirements. And maybe only one party can carry it," he said.

Therefore, Yan emphasized, the Gerindra Party will consistently carry Prabowo as its presidential candidate in 2024.

"Gerindra continues to consistently encourage Pak Prabowo as a presidential candidate," he said.
