Criticism Of The 75 Days Campaign, Fahri Hamzah: It Should Be A Year, So That There Will Be No Exchange Of Gifts And Social Assistance

JAKARTA - Deputy General Chairperson (Waketum) of the Gelora Party DPP, Fahri Hamzah criticized the results of the agreement between the DPR and the KPU regarding the duration of the 2024 election campaign period for 75 days. According to Fahri, the time span for the campaign is very small.

"A little, it should be a year (campaign period, ed)," said Fahri at the Nusantara III Building, Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Tuesday, June 7.

According to Fahri, ideally the campaign period is made longer so that all contestants in the 2024 General Election can debate the ideas that will be offered to the Indonesian people.

"The campaign must be long so people can argue, because democracy is a battle of thoughts. But if the moment where the exchange of thoughts is minimized, many people will exchange gifts, social assistance, souvenirs, billboards and so on," added the former Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives. that.

It is known that the campaign period agreement was reached in a consultation meeting between the DPR leadership and KPU members. Previously, the KPU agreed on a 90-day campaign period with President Joko Widodo.

"The duration of the campaign period is set, it was agreed that it will be carried out for 75 days," said DPR Speaker Puan Maharani at a press conference at the Nusantara III Building, Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Monday, June 6.

Meanwhile, Chairman of Commission II of the DPR Ahmad Doli Kurnia Tandjung ensured that the agreement was not the result of lobbying from the DPR to the KPU.

"So I want to convey that this agreement was determined through a long and detailed calculation, not through lobbying," added Doli.
