2022 MotoGP Standings After Fabio Quartararo Wins And Aleix Espargaro Blunders At The Catalunya Circuit
JAKARTA — The 2022 MotoGP has completed its ninth series at the Barcelona Grand Prix (GP) at the Catalunya Circuit. The following is the provisional standings of the drivers after the series is complete.
The Barcelona MotoGP will take place on Sunday, June 5 at night WIB. Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo successfully emerged as the winner of the race after dominating the race from the start.
This is the second time Quartararo has taken the first podium this season after previously winning the Portuguese GP. The additional 25 points also made the 23-year-old rider even more solid at the top of the standings.
Currently Quartararo has collected a total of 147 points. He is 22 points ahead of Aprilia Racing rider Aleix Espargaro, who has just collected 125 points.
Aleix could actually not be that far away from the defending champion. However, the blunders he made in front of his own public forced him to lose nine points.
The Spaniard was actually able to finish in second place when the race had one lap left. However, his mistake in counting the laps made him think the race was over.
He also celebrated by waving to the audience before realizing the race was still going on. When he realized Aleix was immediately without gas, but he had to settle for finishing in fifth place.
In that race, Quartararo started the race from third position, behind Aleix Espargaro and Francesco Bagnaia. He finished with Jorge Martin in second place and Johann Zarco on the third podium.
