Twitter Caught Working On A New Search Subscribe Feature, What Is It?

JAKARTA - Twitter is allegedly working on a new feature called Search Subscribe, this feature can give users the option to receive notifications on new tweets that are relevant to a search query.

First discovered by developer Dylan Roussel, this feature is seen placing a notification bell icon next to the search box in the application. If you want to see a tweet, the user only needs to tap the bell.

In theory, the Search Subscribe feature will send notifications about the topic the user is looking for, if the user chooses to enable it in each search.

Search Subscribe only appears in the Twitter Alpha app for now, so users shouldn't take this as a sign that this feature will be rolling out anytime soon or is definitely coming.

Launching The Verge, Friday, June 3, however, it's certainly an interesting idea, and is another attempt by Twitter to make it easier for users to find the things they're actually looking for.

Currently users can only get notifications from individual users, or selectively disable or block things based on keywords, but users cannot select specific tweets over specific accounts.

As 9to5Google points out, TweetDeck already has pretty similar capabilities, allowing users to create fields for search results and get notified whenever they're updated.

But given that TweetDeck is in the closing stages of service, it's good to see one of its features migrate to the only Twitter client remaining.
