Body Cleaning After Practice, 3 Pencak Silat Students Dragged By Cipelang Sukabumi River Current, 1 Person Died

SUKABUMI - Three students or students of the Cadas Rasa Pencak Silat College were carried away by the current of the Cipelang River in Warungkalapa Village, Sukabumi City, West Java, on Sunday, May 29. As many as one person died while the other two survived.

"Two survivors were immediately rushed to the Al-Mulk Hospital and one other victim was declared missing and was found not far from the location of the accident," said Head of the Sukabumi City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Imran Whardani in Sukabumi, Antara, Sunday, 29 May.

According to information gathered from local BPBD officers, the accident in the river began when the victim and eight colleagues together with a mentor teacher Davin Abdurahman (30) held a pencak silat practice on Sunday afternoon around the Cipelang River, RT 01, RW 01, Warungkalapa Village, Kelurahan/ Lembursitu District, Sukabumi City.

After practicing the three victims, namely Elsa (13) and Parli (14) residents of Babakan Cimenteng, Gunungguruh Village, Sukabumi Regency and Raitan (14) residents of Joglo Village, Cikundul Village, Sukabumi City, together with eight colleagues were cleaning and playing in the river. Cipelang.

It is suspected that the three of them played in the river too far and could not swim and were eventually swept away by the current of the Cipelang River at 12.11 WIB.

Seeing that three of his students were carried away by the river, the coach immediately gave help and managed to save two victims, namely Elsa and Parli.

However, unfortunately Raitan was carried away by the current and his body disappeared. The joint SAR team who received reports of accidents in the water immediately rushed to the location to conduct searches by combing the river flow using rubber boats, monitoring on land and diving into the riverbed.

A few hours later, Raitan's body was finally found by SAR personnel at the bottom of the river in a lifeless or dead condition. The survivors and the dead were evacuated to the Al-Mulk Hospital Lembursitu.

"The survivors are still being treated by the medical team at the Al-Mulk Hospital, while the bodies of the victims have been handed over to their families for burial," he added.

The joint SAR team that was deployed came from elements of the TNI, Polri, Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) and BPBD Sukabumi City as well as other potential SAR volunteers.

Until now, the police from Lembursitu Police are still conducting the crime scene (TKP) and asking for information from a number of witnesses related to the disaster.
