Syafii Ma'arif Dies Ministry Of Religion Calls Indonesia Loss Of Nation Thinker
JAKARTA - The Ministry of Religion (Kemenag) stated that the death of the former General Chairperson of PP Muhammadiyah Buya Ahmad Syafii Maarif in Yogyakarta on Friday morning was a sorrow for Indonesia because it lost the nation's productive thinker and writer.
"Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun. I and on behalf of the ranks of the Directorate General of Islamic Community Guidance offer our deepest condolences. Indonesia has lost a prominent national thinker and productive writer to old age," said Secretary of the Directorate General of Islamic Guidance at the Ministry of Religion M. Fuad Nasar in a written statement in Jakarta, Friday, May 27.
While conveying his deep sorrow, Fuad said that Syafii Ma'arif is a rare national teacher figure to be found nowadays. He is an intellectual figure who is able to link the world of Eastern and Western thought. During his lifetime, Fuad explained that Syafii Ma'arif always had a high concern for the morality of the nation and firmly adhered to the principle of truth. Syafii is remembered as a Muslim scholar and figure who has an independent and independent line of attitude and stance
The man who had served as General Chairperson of PP Muhammadiyah in 1998-2005, was also known to have a simple, honest and sincere nature in serving the best for the interests of the people and his nation. Fuad also added, his obsession with progressive Islam and a dignified Indonesia, truly extraordinary. Everything has been recorded in various articles or writings in the mass media.
"Hopefully the late Husnul Khatimah, accepted his deeds of worship, forgiven his mistakes, opened his grave, and placed in jannatun na'im," said Fuad.
Previously, it was reported that Buya Ahmad Syafii Ma'arif had passed away on Friday at 10.15 WIB. The man who is familiarly called Buya Syafii, died at the PKU Muhammadiyah Gampin Hospital, Sleman, DI Yogyakarta.
