These Are The Words Of AC Milan Legend Paolo Maldini Who Won The Scudetto As A Player And Technical Director
JAKARTA - Paolo Maldini expressed his feelings about AC Milan's success in winning the 19th Scudetto on Sunday night. Eleven years ago, the Rossoneri legend led his team to the best in Serie A while still a player, now he is the team's technical director.
Quoted from DAZN, Maldini said it was interesting when asked about the difference he felt when he won the title as a player and as a staff. According to him, players can put all their energy on the field and that is really different from his current position as a director who cannot freely show his emotions on the field.
"However, there is one thing that is common (to be able to win), that is the passion that players can show on the pitch that you can't do when you are on staff. Although basically we all give everything we have for this sport and Milan," said Maldini as quoted by DAZN.
The Rossoneri won the Serie A title for the 19th time in history after going through 11 title droughts. They achieved that result after beating Sassuolo 3-0 at the Mapei Stadium on Sunday night.
Maldini himself had no plans to become the club's technical director after retiring as a player. But, when the offer from Milan came, he was happy to accept it as a form of love for the club.
Maldini's decision was apparently not in vain, because when Milan regained the Scudetto title, Maldini was still able to enjoy it even though with a different status.
“My career as a director exists only because of Milan. It was not something I planned after the end of my playing career," said Maldini.
"I took my time, I've tried to understand and learn, waiting for the right moment, and I'm lucky to be able to feel (the Scudetto title) again with another position," he explained.
The acquisition of the Scudetto title was the first time Maldini felt when he was the club's technical director. But besides that, this Scudetto title is the third felt by the Maldini family after his father, Cesare, Paolo himself and his son, Daniel Maldini who were also part of the squad that night.
