'A Night In Bali', A Missing Indonesian Citizens Release Performance In Los Angeles

JAKARTA - The Krama Bali Community in Los Angeles collaborated with the Indonesian Consulate General in Los Angeles to hold "A Night in Bali", a cultural arts performance featuring the Ramayana ballet and a fashion show of Indonesian literature.

The event was held at the Indonesian Consulate General in Los Angeles, May 21, 2022 and was attended by around 120 invited people, including the Head of Foreign Representatives, government representatives from the Indonesian Consulate General in Los Angeles, business players and Indonesian lovers.

The Ramayana ballet accompanied by Balinese gamelan immediately wowed the audience who had previously enjoyed Balinese culinary treats. The choreographer and music director of the Ramayana ballet, I Nyoman Wenten, who is also the coach of the Burat Wangi gamelan group and teaching staff at UCLA and the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), expressed his joy.

"I am very proud to be able to display Indonesian culture, hopefully tourists from the United States will soon return to visit Indonesia, especially Bali," he said as quoted from the statement from the Pensosbud of the Indonesian Consulate General in LA, Monday, May 23.

Also featured is the Indonesian Diaspora fashion designer who lives in Arizona, Natalia Pascale. Exhibited by 25 local models, the clothes displayed are a blend of Indonesian culture with modern designs.

"My design is themed East Meets West, using batik for haute couture clothing, my designs are in demand by local people in the United States," said Natalia Yaya proudly.

The Indonesian Consul General in Los Angeles expressed his appreciation for Krama Bali's efforts to continue to promote Indonesian culture, especially Bali. The "A Night in Bali" event is expected to be a release for local people in the US, especially in the Los Angeles area, who during the pandemic cannot travel to visit Indonesia.

In line with the message of Deputy Governor Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardana Sukawati via video recording. Krama Bali is expected to be the guardian of the local wisdom of Balinese culture in Los Angeles.

"Hopefully Krama Bali will become a complete representative of Bali and carry out swadarmakeuripan in Los Angeles to increase understanding of nature, people and Balinese culture," said the man who is familiarly called Cok Ace.
