Minister Jokowi Shows Intention To Become A Presidential Candidate, PDIP Reminds The Importance Of Printing Achievements Instead Of Imaging

JAKARTA - The PDI-P calls the ministers to work for the people. They cannot make the people their second priority.

This was conveyed by the Secretary General of the PDI-P Hasto Kristiyanto in response to a number of ministers in the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet who were said to be running as presidential candidates in the 2024 Presidential Election.

There are also ministers who are rumored to be running for the 2024 presidential election, namely SOE Minister Erick Thohir, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Uno, Defense Minister (Menhan) Prabowo Subianto and Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto.

"There are ministers who have aspirations for the future, but these aspirations must not override the main priority scale for working for the people," Hasto told reporters at Lapangan Banteng, Central Jakarta, Friday, May 20.

Moreover, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has urged his ministers to concentrate on doing their jobs. Thus, PDIP hopes that the minister who will come forward will prioritize the interests of the people and make achievements.

"That's why, we too, because of an appeal from President Jokowi for all ministers to concentrate on their daily government duties by making achievements," he said.

Hasto also said that PDIP believes that the achievements made by these ministers can build leadership legitimacy rather than just image.

"That must be done, it is not the image that is put forward, not the movement for the presidential candidate to be put forward, but the movement to score achievements for the people, then the people will automatically appreciate it," he added.

"That's the law in a democracy that ministers should understand the laws of democracy," concluded Hasto.
