At The BRICS Forum, Megawati Invites Political Parties To Overcome World Problems
JAKARTA - PDI-P General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri spoke about a number of humanitarian issues that must be the attention of political parties in the world. Moreover, the new COVID-19 pandemic has occurred plus the war in Russia-Ukraine.
This was conveyed by Megawati when speaking at the BRICS Political Parties, Think Tanks, and Civil Society Organization Forum forums in China which she attended virtually today, Thursday, May 19.
At the beginning of her speech, Megawati, who had greeted Chinese President Xi Jin Ping, said that this dialogue forum was important to open a room for discussion.
"With these various issues, what this forum is doing is expected to open up space for dialogue for political parties. Through dialogue, an understanding can be built on the responsibilities of political parties for world peace," Megawati said in a written statement, Thursday, May 19.
Furthermore, the cooperation between political parties in this forum can be focused on several major issues, namely capacity building; training with political party leadership; institutionalization of political parties in accordance with the strategic culture of each nation; to answer various strategic issues such as global warming, economy, green economy, and the importance of cooperation in the field of culture.
Not only that, Megawati also briefly mentioned global warming at the event. According to him, this must be a concern because it can pose a threat in the future, including related to food availability.
Food availability, continued Megawati, is very important because it is the need of every human being. So, don't let a crisis happen.
"Food is very important because it touches the basic life of every human being whose availability must always be maintained. Do not let the food crisis become a problem for the future of all nations in this world," said the 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia.
"That's why research collaboration, increased production and food diversification are important things that must be answered immediately through the cooperation of political parties," he added.
Furthermore, Megawati said that the cooperation of political parties with the above strategic agenda is part of the diplomatic function carried out by political parties. This political diplomacy can strengthen multilateral cooperation carried out by countries in the world, especially those who are members of the BRICS.
Megawati then asked that the cooperation be carried out in the same spirit as that of the country's leaders in 1955 at the Asian-African Conference (KAA).
In the KAA, the principle of peaceful co-existence and how to create an international system based on human values, justice and solidarity between nations must be put forward.
Through the KAA, he continued, the principle of non-intervention on the sovereignty of a country; as well as a commitment to resolving various world problems by prioritizing negotiations, dialogue must take precedence over always a military approach.
"With the same spirit, we all hope that in the future there will be no more countries imposing their national interests, which will have an impact on the suffering of other nations," he concluded.
