119 Rohingya Refugees In Aceh Moved To Pekanbaru

PEKANBARU - A total of 119 refugees from Rohingya who were previously placed in a temporary shelter at the Gampong Meunasah Mee Aceh Work Training Center (BLK), have been transferred to Pekanbaru, Riau.

The Daily Executive Head of the Immigration Division of the Riau Human Rights Ministry's Regional Office, Irwanto, expressed their readiness to guard and supervise Rohingya refugees who will be transferred to Pekanbaru.

"All refugees are expected not to do things that violate the law and can follow the rules that apply in Indonesia. Even though these foreigners are refugees, it does not mean they will be above the law. us," he said as quoted by Antara, Thursday, May 19.

The transfer process was accompanied by authorized officers and departed in two different days on four different flights.

The first flying group departing on 18 May 2022 was divided into two flights, while the second one departing on 19 May 2022 was divided into two other flights.

The Immigration Division Team of the Riau Ministry of Law and Human Rights Regional Office together with the Pekanbaru Immigration Detention Center immediately headed to Sultan Syarif Qasim II Airport in Pekanbaru to oversee the arrival of the first group of Rohingya refugees who arrived at 08.40 WIB.

In addition to state officials in Pekanbaru, there were also representatives of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) along with two officers from the Immigration Office Class II TPI Lhoksumawe and two officers from the Medan Rudenim who brought 30 Rohingya refugees.

The refugees were then directed to D'Cops 2 Pekanbaru accommodation using two buses. Pekanbaru Rudenim officers then registered them in the form of taking fingerprints, photos, and height.

Furthermore, at 15.00 WIB, as many as 25 Rohingya refugees from Aceh again arrived in the second wave, and data collection was also carried out by the Pekanbaru Rudenim at D'Cops 2 Accommodation Pekanbaru.

However, unlike other foreigners, refugees will not be immediately deported if they make a mistake.
