Delivery Of Illegal Lobster Seeds At Juanda Airport Surabaya Thwarted

SIDOARJO - Joint officers at Juanda International Airport Surabaya in Sidoarjo, East Java, foiled an attempt to send illegal lobster clear seeds (BBL) to Singapore via Juanda Airport International Departure Terminal 2.

Danlanudal Juanda, Marine Colonel P Heru Prasetyo, Tuesday said that the disclosure of this case started from intelligence information that there would be a BBL shipment departing from Surabaya to Singapore on Thursday, May 12, 2022 through Terminal 2 of Juanda Airport International Departure.

"Following up on this information, the officers are tightening supervision at Juanda International Airport by dividing up the operating sectors," he said as quoted by Antara, Tuesday, May 17.

He said officers suspected the passenger with the initials ST and his luggage in the form of suitcases and backpacks which were the targets of BBL smuggling operations.

"The passenger is a passenger of the Scoot Air TR263 flight to Surabaya-Singapore," he said.

Subsequently, an inspection was carried out and obtained four BBL bags with details of 23 pockets hidden in a suitcase and 18 hidden in a backpack, without any official documents.

"The total number of BBL is 30,911," he said.

Head of BKIPM Surabaya I Suprayogi said that from this number, 8 plastic bags of pearl type BBL were recorded each containing 502 tails for a total of 4,016 individuals. Then the BBL type sand as many as 13 small plastic bags containing 715 tails each with a total of 9,295 tails and 20 large plastic bags containing 880 tails each with a total of 17,600 individuals.

"The total clear seeds of lobster are 30,911," he said.

He said BBL may be sent as long as there is a certificate of origin and is in Indonesia.

"What should not be sent abroad. Furthermore, the BBL will be cultivated in Sidoarjo," he said.

Meanwhile, Head of the East Java Customs and Excise Office I Tri Wikanto said the shipment was suspected of violating Article 102A of Law Number 17 of 2006 concerning Amendments to Law Number 10 of 1995 concerning Customs.

"With a maximum imprisonment of 10 years and a maximum fine of IDR 5 billion," he said.

This BBL smuggling disclosure activity is the result of good cooperation and a form of synergy between the Juanda Airport community in a team consisting of Juanda Airport, Juanda Customs and Excise, Immigration Class I Special TPI Surabaya, BKIPM Surabaya I, PT Angkasa Pura I (Persero), and Surabaya Regional III Airport Authority.
