Jayapura Residents Start Clearing Plantation Land Around Water Sources, PDAM: Pollution Possible
JAYAPURA - The Regional Drinking Water Company (PDAM) of Jayapura, Papua Province, is concerned about the contamination of clean water in their area. The reason is that many Jayapura residents are now starting to open plantations around clean water sources.
"Indeed, currently the water managed by the PDAM is still declared free of pollution, but in the future if more people are gardening, it is possible that pollution will occur," said Director of PDAM Jayapura Entis Sutisna in Jayapura, as quoted by Antara, Saturday, May 14.
For this reason, PDAM Jayapura conducts regular checks on the supply of clean water to the community, including the pipes to prevent leakage. In addition to maintaining the absence of pollution, this check is also carried out to ensure that supply is maintained.
The reason, continued Entis, the Jayapura BMKG predicts the weather will enter the dry season so it is feared that the water flow will decrease.
"Checks continue to be carried out so that if there is a leak it can be repaired immediately so that service remains normal to customers," said Entis.
According to him, currently there are nine water sources managed by PDAM Jayapura spread across Jayapura City and Jayapura Regency.
"There are 36,700 PDAM Jayapura customers, 89 percent of whom are in Jayapura City," said Entis Sutisna.
