Manchester United Continues To Pursue Barcelona Midfielder Frenkie De Jong, The Champions League Could Be A Stumbling Block

JAKARTA - Manchester United is reportedly continuing to pursue the services of Barcelona midfielder, Frenkie de Jong. The Dutch player is rumored to be a proposal from the new manager of the Red Devils, Erik ten Hag.

De Jong wants to be brought in because Manchester United are in danger of losing three players in the middle sector. Apart from Nemanja Matic who has stated that he wants to leave after his contract ends, Paul Pogba and Juan Mata also have the same plan.

The two players are rumored to be reluctant to extend their contracts and have started looking for new ports.

De Jong is actually still under contract for two seasons with Barcelona. However, the Spanish La Liga club's financial problems could be a gap for Manchester United.

There is one thing that could be an obstacle. The failure of the Red Devils to qualify for the Champions League next season could be a stumbling block regarding this plan.

If De Jong finally fails to be found, MU already has an alternative, namely Declan Rice. However, they must be ready to compete with Manchester City and Chelsea who are also interested in the player.

Meanwhile, Erik ten Hag is reported to have scheduled a meeting with United's director of football, John Murtough, in Amsterdam. The two met to discuss various plans for the next season.

One of them is the transfer strategy of Manchester United players in the summer.
