As Many As 1,881 Cows In Aceh Tamiang Are Infected With Foot And Mouth Disease, 13 Of Them Die

ACEH - The Department of Agriculture, Plantation and Livestock of Aceh Tamiang Regency stated that as many as 1,881 community cattle in the area were positive for foot and mouth disease (PMK).

Head of the Agriculture, Plantation and Livestock Service Office of Aceh Regency, Tamiang Safuan, said that of the number of cattle infected with the outbreak, 13 of them died.

"A total of 13 cows were reported to have died horribly. Based on the results of laboratory tests, the death of the cows was due to an epidemic of mouth and hoof disease," said Safuan in Aceh Tamiang, Antara, Monday, May 10.

Safuan said the community's cattle in Aceh Tamiang Regency reached 45 thousand heads. Tens of thousands of livestock are spread over 10 sub-districts in Aceh Tamiang Regency.

Meanwhile, the other two sub-districts, said Safuan, have not recorded whether any cattle are exposed to mouth and nail disease or not. However, officers in the field recorded the condition of livestock in the two sub-districts.

"The two sub-districts that we have not recorded are Tenggulun and Tamiang Hulu. It is possible that the number of cattle infected with FMD could also increase," said Safuan.

According to Safuan, mouth and nail disease with symptoms of high fever, mouth watering like foam, not wanting to eat until the nails peeled off. This disease outbreak ended in the death of livestock.

Safruddin, a cattle farmer in Aceh Tamiang, admitted that as many as 19 of his cows were affected by an epidemic of mouth and nail disease simultaneously. Symptoms of the disease are limp and limp. The symptoms were known before Eid Al-Fitr 1443 Hijri.

"Before Eid, I saw that many of my cattle were experiencing strangeness, their mouths were drooling a lot and they didn't want to eat grass. Suddenly their legs were limping and they couldn't get up," said Safruddin.

Safruddin said he had called the livestock mantri and asked to inject medicine. At that time, the condition of the ox was lying and its toenails were about to fall off.

"Three days after the injection, the cow's health began to change and was ready to eat. However, I am still worried about this mouth and nail disease outbreak," said Safruddin.
