Unemployment In Central Java Increases 6.26 Percent

SEMARANG - Central Java Statistics Agency (BPS) noted that the number of unemployed in the province until February 2022 has increased by around 70 thousand people or around 6.26 percent.

Head of Central Java BPS Adhi Wiriana in a press release in Semarang, Monday 9 May, said that until February 2022 there were 1.19 million people in the province who were unemployed.

That number experienced an increase of 6.26 percent compared to the February 2021 period which reached 1.12 million people.

He explained that in February 2022, the calculation of employment indicators used a weighted population projection based on the results of the 2020 Population Census data collection.

In February 2022, he continued, the composition of the Central Java Province workforce increased compared to the same period the previous year, from 18.82 million people to 20.76 million people.

Meanwhile, he said, when viewed from the place of residence, the open unemployment rate in urban areas is higher than in rural areas.

"The open unemployment rate in urban areas reached 7.48 percent, in rural areas 3.99 percent," he said as quoted by Antara.

He said the unemployment rate in rural and urban areas in February 2022 also increased when compared to the same period last year.

As for the working population in Central Java, according to him, when viewed from the level of education, elementary school graduates still dominate with 45.35 percent.

"Education level can indicate the quality and productivity of the workforce," he added.
