Every 3 Pm, The Malioboro Area Is Sprayed With Disinfectant To Prevent COVID-19
JAKARTA - The Yogyakarta City Government has prevented the transmission of COVID-19 during the 2022 Eid holiday in the main tourist area of Malioboro by routinely disinfecting it every afternoon.
"We carry out routine disinfection every afternoon at around 15.00 WIB for one hour," said Head of the Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) for the Yogyakarta Cultural Heritage Area, Ekwanto in Yogyakarta, Friday, May 6.
Spraying of disinfectant is carried out along the pedestrian street of Malioboro Street and at the relocation center for street vendors, namely the Malioboro Terrace.
Spraying of disinfectant during the Eid holiday was only carried out for the first time this year in the hope of preventing the potential transmission of COVID-19.
The number of people who come to the Malioboro area during the Lebaran holiday has increased, so it is necessary to take steps to anticipate the transmission of the virus.
Although he has made efforts to prevent the transmission of the virus, Ekwanto also asked that visitors in the Malioboro area be able to carry out health protocols properly, especially wearing masks correctly.
"Our officers in the field are trying their best to implement health protocols by checking the body temperature of tourists who enter Malioboro," he said as quoted by Antara.
He also asked the Malioboro security officer, Jogoboro, to always remind visitors to apply health protocols by wearing masks correctly and breaking down crowds.
The application of one-way streets for each side of the pedestrian is also attempted so that all visitors walk in the same direction so that they do not pass each other.
The Malioboro area is expected to continue to be crowded with visitors and reach its peak this weekend. "Visitors to the Malioboro Terrace can reach 30,000 people per day," he said.
The crowds of tourists who come to Malioboro, continued Ekwanto, at the same time break the notion of street vendors who are worried that they will not sell if they are moved to a new location.
"The proof is that tens of thousands of people come to Teras Malioboro 2. Street vendors are still being sought by visitors even though they have been relocated," he said.
