Proven Stabbing Homeless Man, US Rapper Kidd Creole Sentenced To 16 Years In Prison

JAKARTA – Kidd Creole, the American rapper who co-founded the band Grandmaster Flash and Furious Five, was sentenced to 16 years in prison on Wednesday, May 4 local time for the 2017 murder of a homeless man.

The 62-year-old musician whose real name is Nathaniel Glover was found guilty of first-degree murder by a New York court, AFP reported on Thursday.

He was convicted of stabbing 55-year-old John Jolly with a knife twice in the chest after the two got into an argument on a Manhattan street. Jolly later died on the way to the hospital.

Kidd Creole is a member and founder of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, the first rap band to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007.

The band formed in the 1970s in the Bronx, and is considered one of the pioneers of rap and hip hop music of its time.

In 1982, the band released the song "The Message" which reached number 51 on Rolling Stone's 500 most popular songs.
