Carlo Ancelotti Indicates He Will Retire After Leaving Real Madrid
JAKARTA - Carlo Ancelotti has hinted that he will retire as a coach after completing his job at Real Madrid. He is also willing to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu for the next few years.
The 62-year-old tactician has just established himself as the first coach in history to successfully win Europe's top five leagues after guiding Madrid to La Liga champions this season on Saturday, April 30 yesterday.
"After Real Madrid, yes, I may stop being a coach, but if Real keep me here for 10 years, I will coach here for 10 years," the Italian said.
Ancelotti is under contract with the Spanish giants until 2024. He rejoined the club for a second term after moving from Everton last year.
Although he indicated that he would retire, Ancelotti did not rule out coaching the Italian national team at the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
"I want to spend time with my grandchildren, go on vacation with my wife. There are so many things that I have neglected and that I would like to do. Yes, there may be a national team [coach opportunity] but it is too early for now." he said.
Carlo Ancelotti has previously served in the Italian national team as an assistant coach. At that time he successfully helped the team to the 1994 World Cup final in the United States, where they lost to Brazil on penalties.
After leading Los Blancos to the league title, Ancelotti will be eyeing a fourth Champions League title in his career this season. However, he must bring his team to prevent Manchester City's move in the semi-final second leg on Thursday, May 5 early this morning.
Ancelotti's side will be looking to overturn a 3-4 deficit after losing to City in the first leg at the Etihad Stadium in midweek. If they reach the final, Madrid will face Liverpool or Villarreal in Paris on 29 May.
Previously, Carlo Ancelotti had collected three European Champions League trophies. Two of them were won while with AC Milan in 2003 and 2007, while the other trophy he won when he was successful during his first stint at Real Madrid in 2014.
