2 Million Users Sign Amber Heard's Petition Leave Aquaman 2
JAKARTA - A petition containing a request to remove Amber Heard from Aquaman 2 has reached two million signatures. The figure continues to grow as the trial with Johnny Depp continues.
In the sequel, Amber Heard is confirmed to still play Mera, Aquaman's partner, played by Jason Momoa. Filming which has been completed since the beginning of this year still presents Heard.
Today, Monday, May 2, the petition listed on Change.org has been signed by 2.9 million people. This petition was created by a group of fans who claim Heard ruined Depp's Hollywood career.
The online petition was originally released in November 2020 after Depp left Fantastic Beasts. Fans asked Depp to leave the production of the Aquaman sequel, but Warner Bros. didn't respond.
On the other hand, many new petitions have sprung up since the trial continued. One of them is a petition asking Warner Bros. to fire Aquaman 2 producer Peter Safran for not removing Heard from production.
New petitions began popping up since Johnny Depp declared he was a victim of domestic violence during his marriage to Amber Heard.
"Rumors and paid campaigns on social media have no bearing on casting because they have no basis in the real world," Amber Heard said in a 2020 statement.
Currently, Johnny Depp is suing Heard over an article shared in the Washington Post in 2018. Heard writes that her ex-husband was violent during their relationship.
Previously, Depp also sued The Sun for calling him a wife-beater. However, Depp failed to win the lawsuit and caused him to withdraw from Fantastic Beasts and Disney productions.
Amber Heard, who was identified as the perpetrator, did not receive any loss from this news. The Aquaman 2 film will hit theaters in March 2023.
