Mount Anak Krakatau Is On Standby, Head Of BNPB: Stay Alert, But Don't Panic
JAKARTA - The head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Lt. Gen. Suharyanto appealed to the community to respond to the alert status or Level 3 of Mount Anak Krakatau (GAK).
"Regarding the determination of the alert status, we will act wisely, stay alert and stay alert, but that doesn't mean we continue to cause panic," said Suharyanto, quoted by Antara, Thursday, April 28.
Based on the monitoring, Suharyanto said visually it was not worrying. However, the community still has to adhere to or be guided by the provisions if a volcano is declared Level 3, as stated in the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation number 15 of 2011.
The threat of volcanic hazard is regulated in the regulation, among which the danger of eruption can be widespread, but does not threaten residential areas.
Then the disaster risk area 1 (KRB 1), where the community is to increase awareness by not doing activities around the river valley that originates in the peak area.
Furthermore, KRB 2, namely the community began to prepare themselves to evacuate while waiting for orders from the local government, according to the technical recommendations of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.
For those living in KRB 3, people in threatened areas are not allowed to carry out activities and begin to prepare themselves to evacuate.
BNPB also recommends the current local government to take preparedness steps and check the readiness for activation of the contingency plans that have been made.
