Garbage In Pariaman City Starts To Increase Ahead Of Lebaran, Most Young Coconuts And Used Takjil

JAKARTA - The amount of waste in Pariaman City, West Sumatra ahead of Eid 2022 has increased to around 40 tons per day. Whereas on a normal day only 20-30 tons.

"Household waste production is still normal, the increase is due to the production of cafe waste and takjil traders. The largest waste production is from young coconuts," said Head of the Public Housing, Settlement and Environment Office of Pariaman City, Feri Andri in Pariaman, Monday, April 25.

The garbage from the takjil does not only come from cafes that provide iftar packages, but also street vendors whose selling locations are spread across Pariaman.

The handling of waste from cafes can still be coordinated with entrepreneurs so that the cleaners can transport their waste easily, while the handling of waste from seasonal street vendors is difficult to coordinate because the amount increases before Eid.

"There are still many street vendors who don't understand the condition of the officers, they fill a sack full of young coconut waste, of course it's heavy and the officers don't lift it," Feri said as quoted by Antara.

He hoped, good cooperation between traders and cleaners to realize the cleanliness of Pariaman City.

In a number of locations on the protocol road in Pariaman there are piles of young coconut waste.

The increase in waste occurred before Idul Fitri because many residents and even tourists held iftar together with various menus, one of which was young coconut.

"Young coconuts are heavy, so they can increase waste production in Pariaman. The problem is that if takjil waste is not removed immediately, it will rot and cause an odor," he said.

He predicts that the amount of waste in Pariaman City will continue to increase until after the upcoming Eid holiday, with an estimate of 50 tons per day.

He hopes the understanding of traders, residents, and tourists to help maintain cleanliness so that comfort can be created in Pariaman City.
