Terawan's Fate After IDI Meets General Andika, Does It End On April 28?

JAKARTA - The fate of former Health Minister Terawan Agus Putranto as a member of the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) is still hanging. The reason is, IDI has not officially fired Terawan.

As is known, the decision of the Honorary Council for Medical Ethics (MKEK) of IDI regarding Terawan's dismissal must be processed by PB IDI no later than 28 days after the results of the Banda Aceh Congress on March 25, 2022, were released. This means that PB IDI will announce the decision to dismiss Terawan at the latest on April 28, 2022.

Terawan issue has been discussed with the DPR, but there has been no solution so IDI will cancel its decision.

Most recently, the TNI Commander General Andika Perkasa received a visit from the IDI Executive Board and discussed a number of things. Including Dr. Terawan's practice permit at the Gatot Soebroto Army Central Hospital (RSPAD).

So, what is the fate of Terawan?

In a meeting broadcast live on General TNI Andika Perkasa's YouTube account on Sunday, April 24, the Head of PB IDI, Dr. Adib Khumaidi, explained that the dismissal of Dr. Terawan was a decision of the XXXI IDI congress in Aceh Province.

"Yesterday there was an honest congress decision for us, this is a consequence of the trust," said Adib.

Andika then reiterated the IDI decision.

"So removing (Terawan) from IDI?" continued General Andika.

Adib explained about the purpose of permanent dismissal. Where Dr. Terawan can still be considered as a member again through the internal forum mechanism.

"So permanent dismissal. Permanent dismissal does not mean for life. So there is still room for effort. If we convey there is still room if he is willing to become a member again, we will strengthen the forum internally," said Adib.

After hearing IDI's explanation, General Andika also said that the TNI would stick to the laws and regulations. However, General Andika questioned the effect of the congress decision on Dr. Terawan's license to practice at the RSPAD.

"We always adhere to the laws and regulations. So, IDI as an institution also has an embedded authority," he said.

"It's just us, what should we do, for example, any decision (from) IDI. What will affect Terawan's license to practice at the RSPAD if his membership is no longer active but as a doctor who also practices at our hospital, we will also participate the rules. Doctor Adib ready?" continued General Andika.

"Ready," said Dr. Adib. Previously, the General Chair of PB IDI Adib Khumaidi asked all parties to accept and respect the decision to permanently sack Terawan.

According to Adib, Terawan's dismissal was based on a long process until it was announced at the 31st Congress in Banda Aceh. And, this is the responsibility that I have to do in the congress decision," Adib said in an online statement, Thursday, March 31. Adib added that the dismissal step was solely so that every doctor could maintain ethics. According to him, in the IDI organization, the MKEK is responsible for autonomously. "So, all of us must then jointly maintain ethics and carry out MKEK's decisions," said Adib.
