Two Children Died, One Has Not Been Found Due To Being Dragged In Batam's Waters
JAKARTA - The Tanjungpinang Search and Rescue Office (SAR) stated that one of three boys lost in the current while swimming in the waters of Batu Merah, Batam, Riau Islands, had not been found.
"The victim has not been found named M. Alfatih, aged 10 years," said Head of Tanjungpinang SAR Office Slamet Riyadi, quoted by Antara, Friday, April 15.
Meanwhile, two other victims have been found dead, namely Al Daffa Zakhwah, aged 8, and M. Arkano Tafazio, aged 10.
Slamet said the chronology of the incident began when the three victims were swimming in the waters of Batu Merah Village, Friday, at around 13.30 WIB.
However, while swimming, the three of them were allegedly swept away by the current and drowned.
"We received the incident report from the Riau Islands Regional Police at around 16.00 WIB," said Slamet.
After receiving the report, he continued, a number of SAR personnel immediately moved to the scene of the accident with a set of rubber boats.
The search for victims also involved joint elements including the Tanjungpinang SAR Office, Batam SAR Post, Police, TNI, BP Batam Ditpam, Batam Fire Department, and the local community.
"The search for victims is still ongoing," said Slamet.
