Due To Flood, One Access Road In Southeast Aceh Is Broken

JAKARTA - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Southeast Aceh Regency reported that one access road had been cut off due to flooding that has hit since Thursday, April 14 night. Now, the flood has begun to recede and many piles of garbage are left.

Plt. Head of BNPB Disaster Data and Communication Center Abdul Muhari revealed that the road access that was cut off was in the Kutacane - Medan area, Semadam District, Southeast Aceh.

"This road access was cut off due to the swift current of the river and the asphalt was peeled off by the flood currents. Officers reported that wood waste had piled up," Abdul Muhari said in his statement, Friday, April 15.

Thus, residents who will travel can take alternative roads Semadam – Lawe, Serke – Suka, Dame – Lawe and Sigala-gala.

Furthermore, Abdul Muhari said that the floods in Aceh Landmark hit four sub-districts. Apart from heavy rains, flooding was caused by broken embankments and silting of the river so that when it rained the Lawe Kinga, Pasir Puntung and Kayu Mbelin rivers overflowed on Thursday night, 19:58 WIB.

"The height of the inundation when the flood occurred was about 50-100 centimeters," he said.

A number of areas in 4 affected sub-districts are Desa or Gampong Pinding, Kuning I and Lawe Hijo in Bambel District, Gampong Pasar Puntung, Kampung Baru and Lawe Beringin in Semadam District, Gampong Kayu Mbelin in Lawe Sigala-gala District, and Gampong Kuta Lesung, Teger Miko and Nutmeg in Lawe Sumur District.

Meanwhile, the impact of material losses due to flooding was that several housing units were submerged, the Lawe Kinga River embankment was broken, 4 national roads were submerged, 1 bridge connecting Kutacane - Medan was broken and 1 Islamic boarding school was affected.

"The local BPBD is still registering houses and other facilities affected. The flood did not result in casualties or injuries. However, BPBD still gets the number of affected families or those who evacuated," he added.
