Luhut Considers Himself Older When Delaying Election Debate With BEM UI, Rocky Gerung: A Time For Seniors To Spread Big Data Hoaxes
JAKARTA - Political observer Rock Gerung believes that the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves), Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, has a bad way of arguing when arguing with the University of Indonesia Student Executive Board (BEM UI).
The debate was related to Luhut's claim that 110 million netizens wanted to postpone the 2024 general election. BEM UI asked Luhut to reveal the real data from the big data.
"It's a bad way of arguing, as if he is a senior, so he can advise the juniors. It's not okay in the family, but at the university you can't do that principle," he said, quoted from the Rocky Gerung Official YouTube channel, Thursday, April 14.
According to Rocky, in a debate all are equal. The age hierarchy also does not apply in debates on campus.
However, Luhut in the debate took advantage of his position as an older figure as if he could advise young people. Rocky said Luhut talked more about seniority than answered explicitly BEM UI's questions about big data which sparked the discourse on extending the presidential term.
"Even though the problem is not senior-junior, it's big data lying, Pak Luhut right, that's what was actually being billed. The seniors spread hoaxes, and if Pak Luhut thinks it's not a hoax, explain there that it's real data. Not engineered data," he said. .
From the debate that did not go on to be equal, Rocky said that the academic world in the country was more in favor of BEM UI in the argument. Meanwhile, Luhut is considered to be continuously trying to hide big data which he claims is real.
"So, in the end, the academic public saw students winning the dialogue and Pak Luhut was only trying to hide his lies by taking advantage of his position as an older, more senior person," said Rocky.
A fierce debate between Luhut and BEM UI occurred on the sidelines of the presence of the minister and chairman of the National Water Resources Council as a speaker in a public lecture at the UI Convention Center, Depok, West Java, Tuesday 12 April.
Initially, the BEM UI masses held a demonstration by giving speeches to voice two issues related to the UI statutes and their rejection of the discourse on postponing the election. Until finally met Luhut who visited UI.
