The Fire At Tunjungan Plaza Has Been Extinguished, It's Time For The Surabaya Police To Intervene To Find Out The Cause

JAKARTA - Surabaya Polrestabes dispatched a team to investigate the cause of the fire at the Tunjungan Plaza Surabaya Shopping Center, Wednesday evening.

"Investigations are still ongoing," said Head of Surabaya Polrestabes Kombes Akhmad Yusep Gunawan at the scene, Wednesday, April 13 evening.

Yusep, who accompanied the Mayor of Surabaya Eri Cahyadi to inspect the location of the fire, explained that the Indonesian Automatic Fingerprint Identification System (INAFIS) team from the Surabaya Police had gone to the scene of the fire.

Meanwhile, Eri Cahyadi said the source of the fire was suspected to have come from the kitchen where the restaurant is located at Tunjungan Plaza 5, Jalan Embong Malang, Surabaya.

"The exact cause is still being investigated by Porelstabes Surabaya," said Eri as quoted by Antara.

Eri and Yusep saw the damage caused by the fire which was thought to have originated on the 5th floor and the fire spread upwards through the sewer network to the 12th floor.

"So the damage reached the 12th floor of Tunjungan Plaza," he added.

When inspecting the location of the fire, Eri admitted that he felt the thick smoke of the fire on the 5th floor of Tunjungan Plaza 5 Surabaya.

"The damage occurred on floors 5 to 12 of Tunjungan Plaza. The smoke was very thick on the 5th floor," he said.

The fire, which occurred at around 17.30 WIB, was successfully extinguished by 20.00 WIB. Next, firefighters did the wetting from the 4th floor to the 12th floor of Tunjungan Plaza.

"There are no fatalities. Hopefully there are no injured victims," he said.

After the firefighters completed the wetting, the Surabaya Police would then focus on investigating, he said.

"Investigations into the cause of the fire are still ongoing," he said.
