Brake Blong Caused Deadly Truck Accident That Killed 18 People In Manokwari

MANOKWARI - The traffic accident that occurred on the Trans Manokwari-Arfak Mountains Road was caused by a failed truck brake. 18 people died.

The Head of Public Relations of the West Papua Police, Kombes Adam Erwindi, said the deadly accident started when the truck driver with police number PB 8374 MC carrying 29 people crossed the trans road at around 03.00 WIT from the Arfak Mountains Regency to Manokwari.

When passing on the 10 kilometer derivative of Manyambo, the truck is suspected of having failed brakes which caused the vehicle to swerve and hit the left side of the cliff.

According to him, in that incident as many as 18 people died. A total of 13 of them died at the scene at the time of the incident and five others died after being taken to the hospital.

"Other victims with serious and minor injuries are still undergoing treatment at the Manokwari hospital," he said, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, April 13.

After the incident, the police went to the location with Basarnas to take the victim to the Warmare Primary Hospital (RSUD).

Kombes Adam appealed to road users, especially drivers, to check their vehicles before using them.

"The public, especially vehicle drivers on the highway, should always check the condition of the vehicle to be used before traveling and always obey traffic rules for our safety," he said.
