Vice President Ma'ruf Amin Ensures Government Hears Demands For April 11 Demo
BUKITTINGGI - Vice President Maruf Amin ensured that the government listened to the demands made by students during a demonstration on Monday, April 14.
"I think it's already been explained, it's part of democracy. As long as it is carried out properly, regularly, not anarchically, so that is an aspiration and the government hears the various demands," he said in Bukittinggi, West Sumatra, as reported by Antara, Tuesday, April 12.
At the action that took place in a number of cities in Indonesia, the students expressed a number of demands, such as the issue of price increases and the scarcity of cooking oil, the increase in the price of Pertamax, the discourse on postponing the election to the National Capital Law.
Responding to these demands, Vice President Ma'ruf Amin emphasized that the increase in the prices of basic commodities and fuel oil was caused by several factors, such as rising demand ahead of Eid al-Fitr to the changing global economic situation due to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
"Now this is a result of the global economic situation, there is an increase everywhere. So this Eid is not only Lebaran which usually has an increase, but there is an influence from the global economy," he said.
Although there are unexpected external factors that cannot be avoided, he continued, the government is trying to provide assistance in the form of social assistance for cooking oil.
"The government is trying to control this bulk cooking oil, including the government providing social assistance for cooking oil," said the vice president.
