Jokowi Asks KPU-Bawaslu To Step On Gas To Run 2024 Elections
JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo has sent a message to members of the General Election Commission (KPU) and the General Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) of the Republic of Indonesia for the 2022-2027 period to immediately prepare for the 2024 Simultaneous General Election and Pilkada.
This was conveyed by Jokowi after inaugurating KPU-Bawaslu members for the 2022-2027 period today.
"I hope that the members of the KPU and Bawaslu that I have just inaugurated can work immediately, step on the gas immediately and coordinate with the DPR and the government to carry out their duties and authorities to prepare for the General Election and Pilkada simultaneously according to the stages that have been determined in 2024," Jokowi said in a statement. Presidential Secretariat Youtube show, Tuesday, April 12.
Jokowi said that the initial stages of the election will begin on June 14, 2022. Jokowi asked the election organizers to be prepared to carry out this stage. This is because, for the first time, Indonesia will hold legislative elections, presidential and vice presidential elections, as well as regional head elections in the same year.
"So, the KPU and Bawaslu must immediately prepare everything in detail and carefully to maintain the quality of democracy," said Jokowi.
Jokowi also advised the KPU to emphasize political education in the community and invite the public to welcome this democratic party happily.
"Don't make people provoked by issues of identity politics. We invite the public to welcome the election happily as a people's democratic party," he said.
The former governor of DKI Jakarta emphasized that the government will provide full support for the implementation of the duties of the KPU and Bawaslu, especially budget support through the APBN and APBD, as well as other technical readiness required by the KPU and Bawaslu.
