Corruption Of Aid Funds, Former Principal Of Shipping Vocational School Wira Samudera Sentenced To 3 Years In Prison

SEMARANG - The former head of the Wira Samudera Shipping Vocational School, Semarang City, Agus Joko Purwanto, was sentenced to 3 years in prison in a case of alleged corruption in the 2016 vocational development assistance fund.

The verdict that was read by Chief Judge Arkanu in a trial at the Semarang Corruption Court, Monday, was lower than the prosecutor's demand for 5 years in prison.

In addition to the corporal punishment, the judge also imposed a fine of Rp. 150 million which if not paid, it will be replaced with 3 months imprisonment.

The judge also ordered the defendant to pay compensation for state losses amounting to Rp48 million.

"Declaring that the defendant is found guilty of violating Article 3 of Law Number 31 of 1999 which has been amended and added to Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption," he said as quoted by Antara, Monday, April 11.

In his consideration, the judge considered that the defendant was proven to have abused his authority as a school principal to carry out a fictitious procurement of work for the development of maritime vocational support for maritime vocational schools at the Wira Samudera Shipping Vocational School.

The defendant manipulated the procurement documents carried out by five CVs in the project.

"The defendant did not conduct the procurement auction through the auction committee that had been formed," he said.

There is also another consideration for the judge in making the decision, namely that the defendant has harmed the state's finances and does not admit his actions.

On this decision, both the defendant and the public prosecutor both expressed their thoughts.
