Hasto Ensures Jokowi's Attitude Is One Breath With The Party, Student Actions Don't Get 'Wrong Address'
JAKARTA - Secretary General of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Hasto Kristiyanto warned that participants in the demonstration which will take place tomorrow, Monday, April 11, should not "wrong address" when submitting their demands.
"If the demo is aimed at that agenda (Delaying General Elections/Election) it reminds me of a song, don't get Ayu Ting-Ting's address wrong. Don't get the address wrong," said Hasto, quoted from Antara, Sunday, April 10.
Hasto reminded that the attitude of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) regarding the issue of postponing the election and extending the term of office of the president is in line with the party, namely to obey the constitution.
Meanwhile, the issue was raised by people around the power and a number of general chairmen of political parties.
To that end, Hasto also asked the various parties that previously proposed the postponement of the election to provide firm statements and explanations to the public and students.
"We have stated that from the beginning, the attitude of the PDIP, President Jokowi has been very firm. There are only people around that power," he said.
Previously, President Jokowi had also warned and prohibited his ministers from carrying out movements outside of the mandate they had received in order to focus on their duties.
"And earlier, the President chaired a limited meeting to discuss preparations for the election, this is proof that the president is obedient to the institution, and that has been believed by the PDIP from the start," said Hasto.
Nevertheless, Hasto emphasized that the demonstration is the right to organize, assemble, and express opinions.
"That is regulated by the constitution," he said.
Monday, April 11, the All-Indonesian Student Executive Board (BEM SI) will hold demonstrations simultaneously in a number of cities.
Through these demonstrations, students will voice their rejection of postponing the 2024 election, extending the term of office of the president, and rejecting the increase in fuel prices.
