DPR Commission II: Discussion On 2024 Election Stages After KPU-Bawaslu Members Are Inaugurated Next Week

JAKARTA - Commission II of the DPR has confirmed that detailed discussions regarding the 2024 General Election will be held after the members of the KPU and Bawaslu for the 2022-2027 period are officially inaugurated by President Joko Widodo next week.

It is known, Commission II of the DPR together with the government and election organizers has just decided on the voting day for the election for legislative members (pileg) and the Presidential/Vice Presidential election on February 14, 2024, as well as the election on November 27, 2024.

"Next week, the new KPU-Bawaslu members will be sworn in. Discussions on the 2024 election stages will be carried out after that, so that the discussion will be more flexible because they are the main person in charge," said Chairman of Commission II of the DPR RI Ahmad Doli Kurnia at the DPR RI Building complex, Jakarta, Monday. .

Doli said, there are still points that need to be discussed and agreed between the DPR, the government and KPU-Bawaslu such as during the campaign period. Where the government proposes 90 days, the KPU proposes 120 days, and the DPR proposes 60-75 days.

"There is a desire for us to use a digitalization system in several stages in the 2024 General Election. Because in the 2020 Pilkada we have used an electronic recap, although it is still a trial," he said.

Regarding the 2024 election budget, Doli said that the KPU and Bawaslu had submitted the total cost to Commission II of the DPR in a hearing (RDP) some time ago. However, said Doli, Commission II of the House of Representatives has provided notes so that the 2024 election budget is made efficiently.

"We have submitted the budget they submitted to the DPR RI Budget Agency (Banggar). However, when they submitted the budget, the discussion and the budget cycle had been completed for 2022," he said.

Doli revealed that the leadership of Commission II of the DPR together with the leadership of the Banggar DPR and representatives of the Ministry of Home Affairs, KPU, and Bawaslu had held a meeting in September 2021 to discuss the 2024 General Election budget. (Kemenkeu) during a budget discussion meeting.

"Just waiting for the results of the final discussion between the Banggar leadership and the Ministry of Finance. I heard that there has been budget approval at the DPR Banggar level, it's just a matter of staying with the Government," he concluded.
