Mrs. Puan Maharani Must Know, The Stagnation Of The Ratification Of The TPKS Bill Causes A Low Level Of Trust In The DPR

JAKARTA - Executive Director of Indonesian Political Indicators Burhanuddin Muhtadi said the stagnation of discussions on the Draft Law on Sexual Violence (RUU TPKS) was one of the causes of the decline in the level of public trust in the Indonesian House of Representatives.

This can be seen in the results of the Indicators survey conducted on 11-21 February 2022. As a result, the DPR is ranked 11th out of 12 institutions with the highest level of public trust.

"The DPR is an institution that is believed to be quite low in the eyes of the public. One of them is that there are very high public aspirations related to several things but the DPR has not responded quickly enough. One of them is the TPKS Bill," said Burhanuddin in a virtual survey presentation, Sunday. , April 3rd.

In fact, in the survey results, of the respondents who are aware of the drafting of the TPKS Bill, the majority or 86.2 percent agree if this regulation is passed. Only 9.5 percent of respondents who knew this said they did not agree to be ratified.

In fact, President Jokowi had given a special request by asking the TPS Bill to be ratified immediately. Unfortunately, the TPKS Bill which has been included in the Priority National Legislation Program since 2016 has not yet been passed into law.

Thus, Burhanuddin assessed that the dynamics of drafting the TPKS Bill were not in the public and the constituents, but the political elite in the DPR itself.

"Actually, this is an elite (problem), this is an elite problem, not a constituent problem. So most of the residents have agreed. Whatever the party, whatever the presidential candidate, this is urgent," said Burhanuddin.

Therefore, Burhanuddin views that the Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, should also respond quickly to Jokowi's concern that the TPKS Bill be ratified immediately. Moreover, Puan Maharani is the first female Chair of the Indonesian House of Representatives.

"She (Puan Maharani) is the Speaker of the DPR, the first woman in Indonesia. And this (RUU TPKS) relates to one of the most victims being women and children. So, this legal umbrella will soon be ratified," explained Burhanuddin.

For information, this survey was conducted on 11-21 February 2022. The population of this survey is Indonesian citizens who have the right to vote in general elections, namely those who are 17 years old or older, or were married when the survey was conducted.

The survey was conducted using a multistage random sampling method using a base sample of 1,200 people. The survey's margin of error is estimated at 2.9 percent at the 95 percent confidence level.
