Taking A Peek At Commander Andika's Orders Regarding The Use Of Firearms During The Re-voting In Papua

JAKARTA - The second re-voting (PSU) for the election of the Regent in Yalimo Regency, Papua, has been completed.

The Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces, General Andika Perkasa, shared the moment when TNI personnel assisted members of the National Police in securing the PSU II in Papua. He provided direction and briefing so that he would not be wrong in taking measured decisive action when a critical situation occurred.

Panglima Andika said the criteria for people who deserve to be taken decisive action by being shot were one of them behaved dangerously for the people who were undergoing PSU II Papua.

"So make sure that our actions are really measured. Those who are armed with firearms and shoot at other people, endangering their lives, or have injured others, only then can it be done. He emphasized that if the dangerous conditions did not occur, it was forbidden for TNI members who were securing PSU II Papua to immobilize people by shooting.

"But if that doesn't happen, we can't, we'll aim our weapons at them," he said.

The direction of Panglima Andika was addressed to TNI personnel who were deployed to secure PSU II in 5 districts of Yalimo Regency, namely Elelim District, Apalapsili District, Welarek District, Abenaho District, and Benawa District.

More than 350 TNI personnel and 1,500 Polri personnel were deployed to 327 TPS located in 298 villages from all districts in Yalimo Regency.

PSU II, which took place in early 2022, was carried out safely and conducively. Enthusiastic residents came to the polling stations (TPS) to cast their ballots.

According to the results of the vote count that has been collected, the candidate pair I, Nahor Nekwek and Jhon Wilil, are ahead of the candidate pair II, Lukius Peyon and Nahum Mabel.
