Democrats And NasDem Compact Reject 2024 Election Postponed
JAKARTA - Chairman of the Democratic Party Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) stated that his party and NasDem have the same attitude regarding the postponement of the 2024 General Election. Both parties reject the proposal.
This was conveyed by AHY after meeting Surya Paloh at the NasDem DPP Office, Gondangdia, South Jakarta. He said, Democrats and NasDem have the same attitude to reject things that are not in line with the constitution.
"I believe that Nasdem and Democrats have the same firm stance in the sense that they should not be directed to tamper with the constitution," AHY told reporters after holding a closed meeting with Surya Paloh, Tuesday, March 29.
AHY said that his party and NasDem cannot accept the continuation of power by postponing elections.
"We were firm and agreed earlier, yes, talking about the preservation of power by delaying the election, of course, cannot be accepted with common sense," he said.
AHY also emphasized that the constitutional amendments should not be used to tear apart the constitution itself.
"The constitution belongs to all of us, there are no such and such prohibitions, but also the constitution or amendments should not be directed to violate the spirit of the constitution itself," he stressed.
In addition, in this meeting, Democrats and NasDem also discussed other issues in unison. One of them is related to economic problems caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Together, we are looking for solutions to the problems of our community in various regions, which of course are still very much affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, which is quite prolonged economically and socially," said AHY.
The meeting between the two parties was held at 09.30 WIB. AHY was present accompanied by the Secretary General of the Democratic Party Teuku Riefqy Harsya, Vice-Chancellor Benny K Harman, Chairman of the DPP Herman Khaeron.
