DPR Commission II Denies PKPU Discussion For 2024 Election Wait For New KPU-Bawaslu
JAKARTA - The General Election Commission (PKPU) Draft Regulation on the Schedule, Stages and Program of the 2024 Simultaneous Election is ready to be submitted by the General Elections Commission (KPU) for immediate discussion in a hearing (RDP) with Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives and the government.
However, the Chairman of the Indonesian KPU, Ilham Saputra, revealed that the RDP discussion of the PKPU for the 2024 election stage was hanging because there was one reason.
"The DPR's Commission II wants this discussion to be carried out by the elected KPU for the period 2022-2027," Ilham said, Wednesday, March 23.
In response to this, the Deputy Chairman of Commission II of the DPR, Luqman Hakim, denied this reason. According to him, the DPR has long discussed the stages and schedule of the 2024 General Election with the Government, Bawaslu, and DKPP.
"There is no such thing (discussed PKPU with the elected KPU, ed). It has been a long time since the stages and schedule for the 2024 election were discussed by Commission II with the KPU, Government, Bawaslu and DKPP," Luqman told reporters, Friday, March 25.
"In fact, on March 15, 2021, Commission II together with the KPU, the Government, Bawaslu and DKPP had a meeting to discuss the stages, budget and preparation for the 2024 General Election," he continued.
However, Luqman admits that until now there are still unresolved problems and must be discussed further. In particular, with the KPU and Bawaslu commissioners after being sworn in by the president on 11 April.
"So for me, Commission II will continue to discuss preparations for the 2024 General Election with the KPU, the Government, Bawaslu and DKPP. Including later with the new KPU and Bawaslu leaders after they are appointed by the President," he said.
Meanwhile, previously, Member of Commission II of the DPR, Rifqinizamy Karyasuda, said the consultation meeting regarding the PKPU discussion agenda would not be discussed with members of the 2017-2022 election organizers. Because the term of office of these parties will end soon.
"I think that what is being asked by the Indonesian KPU at this time is not the right momentum. Because we only have to wait a few more days that the KPU and the RI Bawaslu will be inaugurated by the President," Rifqi told reporters, Tuesday, March 22.
