Lawyers Think Haris Azhar-Fatia Don't Deserve To Be Punished For Luhut's Complaint, But Instead Should Get Rp100 Million According To Jokowi's PP
JAKARTA - The legal team of Haris Azhar and Fatia Maulidiyanti, Nurkholis, considers it inappropriate for the two human rights activists to be policed until they are named suspects in the alleged defamation case against the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.
According to him, Haris Azhar and Fatia should actually be given a prize of Rp. 100 million for providing information about alleged economic crimes in Papua. The awarding of the prize refers to Government Regulation (PP) Number 43 of 2018 which was ratified by President Joko Widodo.
"Pak Jokowi has regulations that issue a Presidential Decree (which is referred to as PP, ed) people who reveal a scandal about an economic crime are entitled to get a Rp100 million reward, not to go to prison," Nurkholis told reporters, Monday, March 21.
According to Nurkholis, the awarding of this prize was because the two human rights activists were trying to uncover economic crimes involving Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan. The trick is to create YouTube content that contains research data.
In addition, Nurkholis also touched on the direction of the Indonesian National Police's Criminal Investigation Unit to prioritize reporting or information from the public regarding allegations of economic crimes to corruption.
"We know that there is a Circular of the Criminal Investigation Unit that has never been revoked. If a citizen reports an economic scandal, corruption, gratification, then it must be prioritized, examined," he said.
On that basis, continued Nurkholis, investigators should have followed up on all the information provided by Haris Azhar and Fatia. That way, it will be proven that the information is true or just a figment.
"So we'll see if the police are balanced, fair and non-discriminatory to investigate," said Nurkholis.
Haris Azhar and Fatia were investigated today as suspects in the alleged defamation case against Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.
The examination lasted about 8 hours. Where, investigators asked more than 30 questions about research materials to mining companies in Papua.
Haris Azhar and Fatia are suspects for defamation. The determination of the suspect was based on the results of the case title on Friday, March 18.
They are considered defamatory after making video content entitled 'There is a Lord Luhut Behind Intan Jaya's Economic Relations-Military Ops' on Haris Azhar's YouTube account
