All Developments About The Medan Police Bombing Until This Afternoon
MEDAN - A suicide bomb exploded at Polrestabes Medan, Jalan HM Said Medan, North Sumatra. Below are all the developments that we can convey regarding the incident that occurred at 08.45 WIB.
Police personnel had just finished the morning rally when an explosion occurred right in front of the operations office of the Medan Police. Six people suffered injuries from the explosion. One victim is a casual daily laborer, another is a civilian. The rest, the police.
The victims are now being treated at the Bhayangkara Medan Hospital (RS). Meanwhile, the suspected bomber died. The explosion destroyed part of the suspect's body.
"It is suspected that the perpetrator walked in the courtyard of the rally. After a brief pause in front of the Medan Police operations office, the perpetrator blew himself up," said Head of Public Relations of the Indonesian Police, Inspector General of Police Muhammad Iqbal when met by reporters in Sentul, Wednesday, November 13.
When the news was written, the police were still processing the crime scene (TKP). Apart from the crime scene, investigations were also carried out to find out what type of bomb exploded. In addition, the joint police team will also investigate the existence of a terrorist network behind the perpetrators.
"Currently, the Densus 88 Anti-terror team with the Medan Police and North Sumatra Regional Police are working to carry out the next process. Whether this network is included in any network, just wait," said Iqbal.
"We do not yet know the series of explosions, whether high explosive or otherwise. Currently the team is working. Inafis, the Forensic Laboratory, all of which are working together to process the crime scene," added Iqbal.
Separately, Karo Penmas, the Public Relations Division of the National Police, Brigadier General Pol Dedi Prasetyo, said there were gaps in security at the Medan Police. The loophole was used by perpetrators who wore online motorcycle taxi attributes when carrying out their suicide actions.
The gap referred to by Dedi is the activity of making SKCK. "What happened was that at that time there were several police and community activities that were going to create SKCK. Those who entered together. Moments like that were used by the perpetrators to infiltrate," said Dedi.
Online motorcycle taxis and maintenance according to procedures
Regarding the loophole used by the perpetrators, the West Kalimantan Regional Police refused to let the Medan Police off guard. Head of West Kalimantan Regional Police Public Relations Kombes Pol Donny Charles Go said that the security at the Medan Polrestabes was in accordance with fixed procedures (protap).
"The security according to the procedure is not only after the suicide bombing incident at the Medan Police headquarters, North Sumatra," said Donny Charles in Pontianak, quoted from Antara.
The security protocol that Donny Charles meant was the inspection of guests. The protap applies not only to the Medan Police Headquarters, but also the West Kalimantan Police Headquarters. However, the inclusion of online motorcycle taxis is recognized by Donny Charles as the first occurrence.
"So far, we have implemented this security pattern for the sake of security. And especially for online motorcycle taxi drivers, no one has entered the headquarters and is only limited to being guarded," said Donny Charles.
Gojek immediately responded to the suspicion of the perpetrator who allegedly used their company's attributes. Gojek promised to fully support the police investigation process. Like everyone, Gojek agrees, the war on terrorism is a collective war.
"We have contacted and coordinated with the authorities, and are ready to provide all the assistance and support needed for the investigation process," said Gojek Indonesia Vice President Corporate Communications Kristy Nelwan in the release we received.
"Gojek strongly opposes all anarchist actions and will give full support to the efforts of the authorities in maintaining public safety," Nelwan, in the same release.
State responds
The State Palace responded to the bomb attack with instructions related to handling - both prevention and countermeasures - terrorism through active public participation. The State Palace also urged the security authorities to immediately arrest all parties involved.
"The government does not allow acts of terror to disrupt the security, peace and socio-economic productivity of the community. Anyone who becomes the people of Indonesia will receive the best possible security protection from the state," said Presidential Spokesman Fadjroel Rachman in a press release.
"The president ordered the handling, both prevention and overcoming, terrorism crimes by activating the active cooperation of all parties, both government and society. This active cooperation will defeat terrorism for the sake of advanced Indonesia," he added.
Meanwhile, the DPR expressed its concern. Just like the executive, the DPR also encourages the entire community to be involved in efforts to fight against theory. The DPR also urged the authorities to immediately solve the case, including finding motives and exposing the network.
"We leave it to the realm of law to be thoroughly investigated and then anticipate and mitigate the future. Is this organized or done individually," said Puan, written by Antara.
Arrest H-1
An interesting fact was revealed later. The police stated that they arrested a terrorist suspect with the initials WJ alias Patria alias Dwi one day before the explosion, on Tuesday, November 12 to be precise. WJ was arrested in the Bekasi area in West Java.
The suspected terrorist figure is said to be a member of the Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD) network. In fact, this man was the first batch of combat training in the terrorism group.
WJ is also known to have the ability to assemble bombs. He had participated in the war in Syria with Doctor Azahari seven years ago. "In 2012 (WJ) joined the war in Syria with Azahari and then established relations with the FSA or the Free Syria Army," said Dedi.
Then, WJ is also said to have traveled to several countries. Starting from the Philippines, the UAE, Sri Lanka and Hong Kong. During the arrest, several goods in the form of arrows, electronic devices and communication equipment were confiscated.
"We are still exploring whether this communication tool will be used for the series to assemble bombs, we are still exploring," said Dedi.
