Ministry Of PUPR To Build Wastewater Management In Jakarta Worth IDR 566 Billion

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) through the Directorate General of Human Settlements will build a domestic wastewater management system (SPALD) in Jakarta.

It is known that the government has determined 15 development zones that are included in the waste water management master plan.

The priority for waste water management currently being built by the Ministry of PUPR is zone 1 and zone 6 with a planning package worth IDR 566 billion, with details of IDR 185 billion in zone 1 and IDR 381 billion in zone 6.

Minister of PUPR Basuki Hadimuljono revealed that sanitation problems were not only a matter of infrastructure availability, but also depended heavily on healthy lifestyles and maintaining cleanliness.

Thus, Basuki hopes that this development can improve access to sanitation in DKI Jakarta and protect water quality from contamination from domestic waste such as bathing, washing, latrines and other household activities.

"The public's perception of maintaining environmental health is still not a necessity. The practice of open defecation (BABS) also still occurs in several places," Basuki said in his statement, quoted on Sunday, March 20.

Construction activities for SPALD zone 1 will start in 2023 and are targeted for completion in 2027. Work in Zone 1 includes construction of pumping stations, WWTPs, and maintenance operational training for 2 years after IPALD construction is completed.

Then, the construction of the pipeline network includes trunk sewers, lateral pipes, interceptor facilitation, and house connections for the pilot area.

"The wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) and zone 1 pumping station will be built in the Pluit Reservoir Area on an area of 3.9 hectares with a capacity of 240,000 m3/day. This WWTP can serve 989,389 people or 220,000 house connections spread across 8 sub-districts in Indonesia. Jakarta, namely Menteng, Tanah Abang, Gambir, Sawah Besar, Taman Sari, Tambora, Pademangan and Penjaringan," explained Basuki.

Meanwhile, construction in zone 6 will begin in 2024 and is targeted for completion in 2026. For zone 6 (phase 1), a WWTP will be built in the Duri Kosambi area of 7.13 hectares with an WWTP capacity of 47,500m3/day.

"Zone 6 (phase 1) is targeted to serve 4 administrative cities, namely Central Jakarta, West Jakarta, North Jakarta and South Jakarta, which consists of 12 sub-districts with a population of 180,800 people or 36,000 house connections served," he explained.
