M 5.5 Earthquake In Sukabumi, Vibrated To Bekasi, Factory Employees: Glass Shaking
JAKARTA - An earthquake with a magnitude (M) of 5.5 rocked the southeastern area of Sukabumi City, West Java, March 16 morning. The pain was felt as far as Jakarta.
"Slight vibration, felt a little," said Iman, a resident who walked from Jl. Medan Merdeka Selatan, Central Jakarta, March 16.
The tremors of the earthquake were also felt in the Bekasi Regency area. One of the employees at the industrial area in Sukaresmi, Cikarang said the vibrations made the glass placed on the table sway.
"Glasses were shaking," said an office worker named Dedew.
In addition to Jakarta and Bekasi Regency, the earthquake that appeared at 10:00 WIB was felt in Bekasi City, Pologadung, Pasar Minggu to Depok.
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that the earthquake was centered at 7.94 south latitude, 106.94 east longitude.
"#Earthquake Magnitude: 5.5, Depth: 10 km, 16 Mar 2022 10:00:01 WIB," wrote the BMKG on its Twitter account, @infoBMKG.
The earthquake with a depth of 10 kilometers did not have the potential for a tsunami. However, residents are still asked to anticipate aftershocks.
"Be careful of aftershocks that may occur," said the BMKG.
