Tourist Cars Dragged By Tidal Waters On Cengrong Trenggalek Beach
TRENGGALEK - Police officers assisted by coastal residents evacuated a tourist vehicle that was dragged by the tide after being trapped in the sandy area of Cengkrong Beach, Watulimo, Trenggalek Regency, East Java.
There were no casualties in the incident. Passengers of the vehicle had got out of the vehicle they were in as soon as the tide began to come and inundate the sedan produced in the 1980s.
"Thank God there were no casualties. The driver managed to get out before the car was swept away by the ocean currents," said Watulimo Police Chief, AKP Suyono, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, March 15.
The drifting car incident was purely the fault of the driver who was desperate to walk along the beach to change parking locations.
Not far from the vehicle moving, the stretch of beach sand that is still wet and is thought to be strong enough to be crossed by a vehicle turns out to be soft.
The wheels of the car that Prambudi Widodo (35) was riding in collapsed in the sand.
“The driver took the car along the beach on a stretch of sand. When they were about to move from Cengkrong Beach to the Pancer area, the car sank," he said.
As a result, Suyono continued, the tires of the car were partially submerged in the sand and could not move.
Not long after, the high tide hit the car body and dragged it into the sea. The condition is still exacerbated by the state of the engine that can not be started.
"Eventually the vehicle engine died, the car was dragged and the sea water that flooded the vehicle was getting higher," he said.
