ACEH - The price of chili and kitchen spices sold by traders at the Meulaboh Business Development Main Market, West Aceh Regency is now creeping up to reach tens of thousands of rupiah per type ahead of the holy month of Ramadan.
"The increase in the price of chili and kitchen ingredients is due to high demand from consumers," said Rifki, a trader at the Meulaboh Business Development Market, West Aceh Regency, Antara, Tuesday, March 15.
He explained that the price of red chili, for example, is now sold at Rp. 50 thousand per kilogram. Whereas previously the price of red chili was sold between Rp. 15,000 to Rp. 20,000 per kilogram.
Then the price of cayenne pepper is sold for IDR 50 thousand per kilogram, onion for IDR 35 thousand per kilogram from the previous IDR 25 thousand per kilogram, garlic for IDR 28 thousand per kilogram.
Then tomatoes from Rp. 10 thousand to Rp. 15 thousand per kilogram, potatoes from Rp. 5 thousand to Rp. 12 thousand per kilogram.
Rifki explained that the increase in the price of chili and spices is expected to rise again in the days leading up to Ramadan, due to increasing consumer needs.
Meanwhile, Sarah, a housewife in Meulaboh, West Aceh, said that the increase in the price of a number of kitchen spices had caused people to complain.
"The increase in the price of goods is out of control. We hope that there will be efforts from related parties to monitor it, so that people do not complain more about the increase in the price of goods," he hoped.
Head of the Office of Trade, Industry, Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises of West Aceh Regency, Jani Janan, who was confirmed separately, confirmed the increase in a number of commodities for household needs in this area.
According to him, the increase is thought to have occurred due to the increasing number of consumer demands for kitchen needs ahead of the holy month of Ramadan in the next two weeks.
