Puan Maharani Explains The Contents Of The Meeting With KPU-Bawaslu, Ensures That The General Election Does Not Shift From February 14, 2024
JAKARTA - The chairman of the DPR, Puan Maharani, explained the contents of the meeting with KPU-Bawaslu commissioners which had been in the spotlight and raised suspicion. Puan emphasized that the meeting was only a gathering to ensure that the upcoming elections were carried out properly. "We, the leadership, only carry out gatherings related to things that become our vision for the future, how to carry out the tasks that will be carried out by future Bawaslu and KPU members," said Puan at a press conference at the DPR Building, Tuesday, March 15. During the meeting, Puan reminded KPU-Bawaslu that the stages and process of the election could run according to the expectations of the people. Elections that are honest, fair, safe and comfortable. "Then pay attention to the safety of all officers who will play a role in the electoral process, until the election which will be held, God willing, on February 14, 2024," explained Puan.
Because, continued Puan, with the COVID-19 pandemic, the election situation will be different from the previous elections. In fact, he said, the 2019 election must be a lesson and experience that is evaluated. So that the things that are still an obstacle do not happen again.
Regarding the budget, Puan revealed, the DPR is committed to ensuring that the stages and processes of organizing the 2024 General Election can run as expected by the community. He asked all parties to be patient in waiting for the amount of the budget to be decided for the 2024 election.
"The DPR leadership will still be committed to being able to provide a budget according to the stages, so we'll just have to wait," said Puan.
"It's that the upcoming Bawaslu and KPU members have not been sworn in, of course, it will be better if the plans and stages as well as the financial management are accountable to the Bawaslu and KPU members for the coming period," he added. On the issue of postponing the election, the chairman of the PDIP DPP emphasized that the DPR leadership had agreed that the election would still be held on February 14, 2024.
"Regarding the postponement of the election for the leadership of the DPR in accordance with the mechanism. The DPR and the government have agreed that the election will be held on February 14, 2024. So, we have agreed on the current mechanism so that we can run it as well as possible," said Puan.
