Sustenance During A Pandemic, Steam Successfully Gets 31 Million New Users In 2021

JAKARTA - Entering 2022, many gamers are curious about video game companies in 2021, which are affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Valve, shared Steam user statistics for 2021 through their year-end report. In the report, there are various statistics shared especially regarding the number of new Steam users themselves.

The report reveals that in 2021, Steam has 132 million monthly active players with 69 million users logging in every day.

As a result of the high number of active players, Steam recorded a 27% increase in player spending compared to the previous year.

This could be the impact of activity restrictions or lockdowns that cause many people or gamers to spend more time at home playing games.

From the amount of data displayed, what is interesting here is the statistic that says Valve will get 31.2 million new Steam users throughout 2021. It is estimated that there are around 2.6 million “prime buyers” or new accounts that join every month.

Reporting from Gamebrott, in the previous year, 2020, Valve said that Steam experienced "unexpected good developments" in the video game industry affected by the pandemic. What's amazing is that when looking at 2021, Steam has managed to maintain a slick record and get better in some areas.

Valve mentioned the reason why Steam was able to produce a lot of new players in 2021. One of the main factors is the presence of games that were previously exclusive to consoles such as God of War and Days Gone, to Steam throughout 2021.
